CHURCH DEDICATED TO SAINT CORNELIO AND CIPRIANO

san cornelio e cipriano The church is located in the village of Teglie. The building is a 18th century restoration of a preceding temple. On the west side remains a pleasant porch with small 15th century arcades of Ionic style.
The interior, which is structured as a single room, contains three altars and a niche which holds the baptismal holy water. On the vault, divided in three sections, is a fresco representing the triumph of the patron saints.
On the walls, a large fresco, dating back to 1512, is dedicated to the Madonna ascended on the throne and to the saints. There are also a series of frescoes which were painted by Gabriel Gatti during the restoration of the church in 1958. The 18th century altar-piece of the high altar is of refined workmanship as is a crucifixion in a lateral altar of the same age. It is also notable a painting of Saint Bartolomeo, which originates from the homonym church of Moglia. A simple yet elegant pipe organ of the 18th century is located above a minor entrance.

Furthermore, there is a more distant and humbler church with an attached cemetery. This is the ancient parish church dedicated to Saint Gervasio and Protasio that gleams in its pure design dated of the 14th and 15th century. The coeval bell tower flanking the church, has double lancet windows on all sides. Inside, the building reveals walls painted with frescoes that stem back to the first years of the 16th.

CHURCH OF SAINT FAUSTINO AND GIOVITA

san faustino The church is located in an enchanting panoramic position above an ancient bastion between the village and the shrine of the rock. It contains the ruins of an ancient chapel of the 14th century, that was transformed in the 16th century to assume the shape of today. In 1650, the whole of the interior was painted with frescoes.
The church had cult functions till around 1850, when it was converted into a quarantine hospital. Later, it was used as refuge for troops and evacuees. Finally it was desecrated and sold to private citizens.
Recently the frescoes have been decaying, for this reason, in 1982, the local council became the owner of the church and started to project the restoration of it.

PARISH OF SAINT MARTINO

The parish is located in the village of Degagna. It was erected in different phases during the 17th century with the contributions of the local community and was consecrated in 1676.
The church has a single nave with the apse oriented towards the east. The apse contains the main altar made with polychrome marble set in elegant Baroque patterns and an altar-piece dedicated to the Patron Saint. The golden wood frame of the altar-piece is massive and is characterised by its white columns and its inlays.
On the sides there are the four minor altars, two for each part. They are characterised by multicoloured marble inlay. The pulpit is sculpted in wood and faces the majestic pipe organ adorned with friezes and refined motifs. The musical instrument has been recently restored and is used for concerts.
Outside, on a pilaster that delimits the façade there is a human face in a distorted mask that is sculptured in a block of tuff. This is a singular and enigmatic element, which recalls times of pagan rituals and rural, pre-Christian cults.

THE PARISH OF SAINT ROCCO

san rocco The parish of Saint Rocco is a votive church situated by the mouth of the torrent Agna. The church gave the name to the homonym quarter of the village.
It was erected in simple lines at the beginning of the 16th century. Perhaps the style was influenced by the emergent Renaissance culture, above all for the little arches and the Tuscan pilasters which sustain the choir, and the entrance doors, characterised by architraves with an elegant frame made of stone. The church is flanked by a thin bell tower with an escarpment base in granite.
It conserves an esteemed painting dedicated to the Patron Saint. On the 20th of March 1603, an autonomous confraternity was instituted that would operate for two centuries.

SANCTUARY OF THE MADONNA DELLA ROCCA

Next to the small church of Saint Faustino and Giovita is the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca, the ancient oratory of Saint Giovanni. It was erected over the ruins of the Castellogià in the 16th century, adapting to the cultural needs. On the only altar, the sanctuary contained a painting with the Virgin and the Infant attributed to Moretto and his pupils. Following the Second World War the popular fervour restored the edifice and modified the structure, by changing the entrance and building an entrance ramp to the church. The painting by Farinati disappeared as it was damaged by the elements. Recently the painting of the Virgin has been moved into the parish, together with a wooden statue dedicated to the Madonna which was carved by the artisans of Val Gardena.
