CHURCH OF THE MADONNA DEL BRIZZO (or Madonna of the birds)

It is an ancient edifice of two floors which was adorned with a little porch that was eventually demolished. To enter, one needs to climb two sets of marble stairs. The first floor has been maintained with the structure of the ancient tabernacle decorated with the fresco of the Madonna with Infant dated 1527.
In occasion of the festivity of the Madonna del Brizzo a village festival was celebrated. Such a fair was characterised by a hearty meal of polenta and birds. For this reason, the church is commonly named Madonna degli Osei, in fact Osei means birds in the local dialect.

CHURCH OF THE MADONNA DEL RIO

The church is situated on the confluence of two rivers in the municipal area of Salò along the border of Roè Volciano. This church was an important landmark for travelers and shepherds, who could shelter under its porch. In the interior, there is a votive fresco in which an overturned cart is represented. This cart had an accident during its descent from the path of the Ruinà (the path arriving from Bagnolo) whose “miraculously cured” driver is portrayed healthy and unhurt near the cart.

The church is located in a nice position, flanked by two monumental cypresses. The elegant shrine dates back to the middle of the 15th century. In the interior, on the main altar, is an interesting painting of Paolo Farinati, pupil of Paolo Veronese, and a wooden statue representing the Blessed Virgin of the Crying. (Recently has been named Sanctuary of the Family)

CHURCH OF VISITAZIONE DEI TORMINI

It is situated on the ancient Roman road, which was for centuries the unique connection between the city of Brescia and Lake Garda. Originally it was a simple votive chapel and represented a place of rest for the wayfarers, who stopped in the annexed refuge or under the porch which have both disappeared.
In the 18th century the chapel was enlarged, closed and transformed into a church. The two frescoes of the 15th century are interesting. In particular, one represents the Virgin on the throne with Saints, with the year 1497 being readable on one of them.

THE CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION

The church was built before the 1500’s on the main road of the village. The structure is characterised by a single nave. The shrine was an important presence in the history of the community and in the 17th century was the subject of a dispute for the will of the people of Volciano in order to separate from the Parish of Saint Pietro. Inside there are some paintings of good quality: the altar-piece of the lateral altar of the Holy Sepulchre by Venetian school, the painting of the Ascension and the notable main altar by marble. To the right side, opposite the lateral entrance, is a chapel in Baroque style, added in the 18th century.

CHURCH OF SAINT GIOVANNI

It is located along Bonfadio street, in Gazzane. It was founded in the 15th century by the family of Bonfadini, who had always been present in the history of this church. Many members of this family practiced their priesthood here. In the year 1586, there were three Bonfadini competing for the role of chaplain.

The shrine hosts the altar-piece of the main altar which was possibly committed by the distinguished family of Jacopo Bonfadio. In fact, at the bottom of the painting is the coat of arms of the family itself, red waves with white background and the letters F.B.. The road side in front of the church is also rich with elements. At the side of the church, the nowadays old people’s home is made by a palace with an internal garden and porch.

CHURCH OF SAINT PIETRO IN VICOLI

This is the most ancient church of the municipal area which dates back to some centuries before the year 1000. It is located in an isolated yet strategic position, on the top of the hill, and is visible from almost all the neighbourhood. From the church square one can enjoy an amazing panorama on the gulf of Salò. The internal structure is characterised by a single nave, which is articulated with pilasters, four lateral altars, a richly decorated pulpit and a frescoed barrel vault. Above the entrance there is a wooden balcony with the pipe organ. The apse has a wooden choir and is illuminated by two polychrome windows with figures of Saints. Between these windows is the altar-piece by Zenone Veronese: “The Madonna with the Infant and Saint Pietro, Paolo, Caterina and Lucia. On the main altar is “the Deposition of the Cross”, a copy made in 1904 by the painter Arturo Castelli, while the original is shown in the picture gallery of Brescia. The façade is characterised by a protiro and two niches with statues of saints.

CHURCH OF SAINT ROCCO IN LIANO

As with other churches of the municipal area of Roè Volciano, this church was also a small and simple chapel. The altar-piece portraying the Madonna in Glory and chapel are presumably frescoed by Anselmi.
