PARISH CHURCH S. ANTONIO ABATE IN CASTO

This church was reconstructed in 1833 after the project of the architecht Luigi Donegani and is an only example of neoclassicist architecture in the valley. The interior contains valuable paintings and frescoed vaults by Domenico Voltolini. The construction of this church was realized with the great contribute of Passerini family, who wanted to break the village free of its provincialism. The architecture of the houses still hints at a noble past, reveal the prosperity of the families dedicated to the industry and trade.

PARISH CHURCH OF S. LORENZO IN ALONE

This church is a little jewel of harmony and proportion. The façade is really unique, lightened by a series of pilasters. These frescoes are the most truthful witness of the reality of those days. It is an example of how a provincial centre can be open to wider cultural and human experiences, thanks to the efforts of its enterprising merchants. Thus the Parish Church S. Lorenzo in Alone is completelly covered by frescoes.
In Alone you can feel a particular atmosphere. The village preserves some important artistic works which in its houses houses show off several architectural features typical for the 15th and 16th century.

PARISH CHURCH OF S. SILVESTRO PAPA IN COMERO

San Silvestro Casto The parish church of S. Silvestro Papa is the parish at the highest altitude and it is placed in a delightful, dominating position on a hill with a wonderfull view of the above rising mountain Corna di Savallo. This church is a jewel case of art and belongs to one of the most important and unique buildings of Sabbia Valley.
It was built between 1755 and 1771 after design of Pietro Corbellino. The frescoes on the church vault and basin were created by Pietro Scalvini. Main altar is made of marble with a beautiful polychromatic altar piece, adorned with a retable representing S. Silvestro di Palma il Giovane. On the right side of the altar, near the presbytery, there is a gorgeous oil paintig by Alessandro Bonvicino, called Moretto. This painting represents S. Antonio Abate and was painted between 1530 and 1535 in the period of full artistic maturity of the above mentioned artist. This painting which was once exposed in the sanctuary of Auro, was restored. The critics of Fine Arts have praised this painting for its great modernity.

THE SANCTUARY OF AURO

This is not only a religious heart of Savallese district, it is as well the synthesis of art of Casto municipality. This church with a nave contains important scenographic wooden altar retables by Pialorsi Boscai. The painting by Moretto represents S. Antonio Abate and it is a real masterpiece. In this painting S. Antonio Abate is depicted with strong paternal feelings, as if he would like to appeal the whole region and protect it.
